Margaret Pauline Buchanan

Passed away on February 18^th, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital.  Born October 4^th, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Avery and Selena Hewey and was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Chester Buchanan.  Margaret was a lifetime resident of the North End of Saint John and a long time member of Victoria Street and Main Street Baptist Churches. 

She loved life and laughter and liked nothing more than getting together with family and friends.  For many years she and her husband trailered at Cambridge Narrows.  She took great pride in knitting socks, mitts, scarves and hats for her family and friends.  In her later years she took many bus tours with her friends.

She is survived by son William  (Janet) Moncton, NB; daughter Carol Sullivan (Bernard) Rothesay; son James (Pam Ross) Saint John; daughter Jean Cruickshank (Allen) Sussex; sister Shirley Boyce (Edward) Saint John; brothers Kenneth Hewey (Pam Higgins) Nerepis; Douglas (Crow) Hewey (Barbara) Saint John; Malcolm Hewey (Eleanor) Prince of Wales; Raymond Hewey (Sherry Branscombe) Nerepis; and Murray Hewey of Quebec; seven Grandchildren and six Great Grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.  Margaret was also predeceased by sisters Katherine Gould, Doris Bailey and Audrey Gibbons; brothers Allan and Charles; and a Grandson, Andrew Douglas Buchanan.

Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424); with visiting  from 7-9 Saturday and 2-4pm and 7-9pm Sunday.   Funeral Service will be held on Monday, 2 pm from Brenan's Chapel.  Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Heart & Stroke Foundation; Saint John Regional Hospital’s Critical Care Unit; The Restorative Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital; Main Street Baptist Church; Saint John Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit; or the Charity of your choice.
