Mary "Jean" Carmel Bennett

Mary “Jean” Carmel (MacKay) Bennett of Saint John, wife of the late Reginald George Bennett, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010 at her residence.  Born at Stanley, New Brunswick on July 15, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Blanchard and Janet (Malone) MacKay.

 

Jean spent her working life in Ontario, where she was employed with the Toronto Star and with Metroland Printing and Publishing, retiring from the Oakville Beaver Newspaper in 1991.  After retiring, she moved with her husband back to Stanley where she lived until returning to Ontario to be near her children, and subsequently moved to Saint John in 2007.  She enjoyed watching curling and hockey, cheering for whomever the Malone boys were playing at the time.

 

Jean is survived by her children, George R. Bennett (Mary) of Bolton, Ontario, Joan E. Bennett (Robert Keller) of Milton, Ontario, Reginald G. Bennett (Marie) of Milton, Ontario, and Heather L. Golden (Tim) of Uxbridge, Ontario; grandchildren Lisa, Lee, Robert, and Alicia Bennett, Anthony, Hope, Jordanne, and Marcy Golden; great grandchildren Nate and Branden; and many friends both in New Brunswick and Ontario.  Jean was predeceased by a granddaughter, Stefanie; and by a brother, James MacKay.

 

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be observed at this time.  Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Stanley, at a later date.   For those who wish, remembrances to Bobby’s Hope House through Hospice of Saint John would be appreciated by the family.  The funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
