It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Bernice Lulu Black of Saint John, NB, which occurred on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Amherst, NS, on March 26, 1927 she was a daughter of the late Warren and Alice (Chappel) Black. She spent her childhood years in Amherst, NS and in 1950 moved to Moncton, NB, to Train at nursing school. In 1952 began her 40 year nursing career in Saint John, TB Hospital, General Hospital and retired from the Saint John Regional Hospital; she always lived east, then in the 1970’s moved to Westmorland Road and the past few years uptown. She was very active in Cornerstone Baptist Church volunteer and choir member, enjoys her church community. She enjoyed travels to NS for family visits liked "to run the roads" with friends, trips throughout the Maritimes, in 1980 took a trip to Europe. She was a crafty lady, knitter, sewing, made porcelain dolls, always had a pet, dogs and cats in her later years, enjoyed old time music and hymns. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Ann Ingram of Saint John and brother, Robert Black (Helen) of Amherst, NS; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brother, Kenneth Black; sister, Louise Hollis; brother-in-law, Ernest Hollis; sister-in-law, Helen Black. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral service will be celebrated from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at 12:00 pm. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
