Shirley June Coleman of Saint John, NB passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Shirley was born 90 years ago in Glace Bay, NS to Reginald and Gladys (Moore) Worthington. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, her son, Derek, and her husband of 69 years, Adrian Coleman.
She is also predeceased by her sister Arlene Morell and brother John Worthington.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Donna (Doug) Stephen, Cheryl (Jack) Darrah of Saint John, NB and Adrienne Coleman of Halifax, NS; grandchildren Amber (Jon) Brown, Ashley (Mark) Miller, Alyssa Darrah, Nicholas Stephen, Cole Stephen, and great-grandson Carter Darrah. She is also survived by sisters Joan Green and Patsy MacDonald as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley spent the last 10 years of her career at Hartt’s Lumber in South Bay, NB. She enjoyed playing cards every Monday night with “the club”, Tuesday morning bowling with the girls, and Friday lunches at Billy’s Seafood where the staff affectionately caller her and Adrian “the kids”. Summers were spent at Lake Utopia with Adrian and the rest of the family where she made sure everyone knew how to make a decent Caesar and always had popsicles and freezies on hand for all the kids. She also enjoyed planning and being the Treasurer of the Monster Mash celebration every Labour Day weekend. A deeply private person, Shirley didn’t like a fuss but enjoyed her time with friends and family, especially on Christmas Eve when she always made her famous shrimp dip.
We would like to thank the staff of Roc Maura Nursing Home for the exceptional care they provided our mother in her last 6 years.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). At Shirley’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be a graveside service in spring. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Rocmaura Nursing Home, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
