With appreciation of a life well lived, the family of John Frederick Shillington, loving husband of 65 years to Audrey (Henderson) Shillington, announces his passing which occurred on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Earl and Helen (Winslow) Shillington Jones, stepson of Samuel Jones.
John will live on in the hearts of his sons Bruce (Shelley), Doug (Michelle) and daughter Wendy (Stephen), and his grandchildren Lacey, Johnny, Jake, Bryce and Sophie, step grandchildren Ian Watson (Naomi), Ben Watson (Nicole), Ashley Cabel (Stephen), Jordan Morton as well as seven step great-grandchildren and Brother-in-law Joe Henderson. John lost his eldest daughter Debbie Ann Shillington to cancer as a teenager in 1975. He was also predeceased by step-grandson Justin Morton.
John (Mickey) was the last remaining member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses; Rita Moore (John), Tom (Lois), Grace Forster (Doug). Also, sisters-in-law Elsie Henderson (Ronald) and Betty Henderson. In addition, step-siblings and spouses; Harold Jones (Millie), Lenny Jones (Connie), Myrtle Baxter (George), Ed Jones (Dorcas) and Jennie Baxter (Hazen), as well as several nieces and nephews.
John worked as an auto body repairman for 28 years, first at J. Clark and Sons, then later at Purdys garage. He also worked at Atlantic Towing where he was an engineer on tugboats for 18 years until his retirement.
There isn’t a road in southern New Brunswick that John and Audrey haven’t driven on... including some that are not much more than ATV trails (much to Audrey’s dismay). John will be greatly missed for his love, laughs and the mischievous twinkle in his blue eyes. Family was the number one priority in John’s life and he showed it in many loving, generous ways.
Visitation will take place at Harmony United Church, 8 Upland Road, Saint John, on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00am. A Reception will be held following the service. Private Interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424).
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the SPCA (John loved his dogs and cats) or Harmony United Church of Canada. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
