I had the privilege to care for Verna at Dobbelsteyn's. Her jokes and her laugh always put a smile on my face. I always admired the joy that she had at 102! She is so loved and will be missed. This is the last photo I have of her after I painted her nails to match her her pink sweater.

Verna was the sweetest soul. I loved helping her get ready in the mornings, putting on her jewelry as she smiled with that cute little giggle. She could play cards with Donna Burley for hours, always full of joy. Her kindness was rare, and her heart was pure. Verna was truly special, and I’ll always remember her. Rest in peace—you will be missed.

To my cousins, Beth and Curtis, my heartfelt sympathies at the passing of your Mom, the lovely Auntie V. it has been a difficult road we have walked these last 3 weeks, together yet one apart. I have such fond memories of your Mom and her little yellow beetle that drove us around Saint John when we’d have little visits away from home. I will remember the crew arriving in blinding snowstorms at our driveway around 10 in the morning on Christmas Day, the joy that Mom, Grammy Webb and Mom bustled around the kitchen preparing dinner for 28, then 32 for supper. She was patient, kind, full of love, acceptance and warmth for all. She will be deeply missed. Love you both so much. Our families shared so much together.

My deepest condolences to Verna's family and friends. Verna was born the same year as my mother (Helen Davidson) and they grew up together at Victoria Street Baptist Church. My Dad (Murray King) grew up at Main Street Baptist Church, just a block away As a child our family worshiped at Victoria Street Baptist, later at Main Street Baptist, and I certainly remember the Short family. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
