Obituary of Donald "Don" Manks Parker
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Manks Parker of Saint John, announce his passing which occurred on Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness, at the age of 94. Born on January 29, 1931 in Saint John, he was the son of the late Murray and Vera (Friars) Parker.
Don grew up and spent most of his life in Saint John. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, who he spent 59 years with. Together they enjoyed square dancing with the Bows and Bells Square Dancing Club, going to antique car shows, listening to country and fiddle music, trips to Bangor and Ontario and Sunday drives to visit family. He was a loving and dedicated husband, who on a daily basis, spent hours with Betty when she resided at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home.
Don retired from Saint John Energy in 1993 after 30 years of service.
In the nicer weather, he enjoyed ice cream at the Pumpkin Patch and walks around Lily Lake. He was a kind and optimistic man, who was often heard humming a tune even in challenging times. He will be missed.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Annie (Johnson) and Harold Gahan and niece, Sandra Gahan and her partner, Stephen Craft. Together they enjoyed family dinners, which Don lovingly named “The Big 5” get togethers. He is also survived by other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thank you to the staff of 3CS and 5DN at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the exceptional care that was provided to Don over his admission.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers and for those who wish, donations may be made to charity of one’s choice.
