Obituary of Elizabeth Anne O'Blenis
Elizabeth O’Blenis (Wood) passed away peacefully with on March 4th at Saint John Regional Hospital. Elizabeth was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, GG, Sister, Aunt and friend who loved to laugh and made the day brighter with her presence.
Elizabeth was born on August 2nd, 1944, in Saint John, New Brunswick to Frank (Francis) Wood and Ann (McAfee) Hargrove. Elizabeth lived a life filled with adventure from road tripping across the country on the back of a motorcycle, to finding the best treasures at the farmer’s market. To know Elizabeth was to know kindness, generosity, style, a sharp wit, and fierce love. Those lucky enough to know her also knew her resourcefulness, stubbornness, resilience, impressive luck, and ability to give the best hugs in the world.
Elizabeth’s love knew no bounds and “step-family” was not in her vocabulary. She loved without labels and nurtured her family connections equally, whether by blood or not.
She is survived by her children: Robin and Bill, Kathy and Gerry, Susan and Todd, and Tim and Liz; dear friends Corinne, Carole Fawcett and Debbie, and more. She proudly embodied her role as a grandmother and GG to every young person in her life, leaving behind 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren who will remember her fondly. She rejoins her late husband Jim O’Blenis, brother George Wood, and her grandson, Nathan.
Although she lived many chapters of her life in Ontario, Saint John was always her true home. Elizabeth’s grand finale brought her home to Saint John where she reconnected with her roots, her loved ones, rediscovered her community, and found peace.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to those who supported Elizabeth through her three battles with cancer. Thank you to those who sent her love or laughs. Special thanks to Dr Luan Le, Dr O'Brien and his team for taking such loving and respectful care of her.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). A Celebration of Life for Elizabeth will be held at a later date, and whether you shared a moment, an adventure, or part of a lifetime with Elizabeth, you will be welcome with the same warmth she radiated.
In Lieu of Flowers: The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Canadian cancer society and Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Elizabeth's memory.
