Obituary of *REVISED* Ian MacCallum Sweet
Ian MacCallum Sweet passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in the CAM Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Born on January 23, 1939 in Saint John, he was the son of the late H.C.L. “Harry” and Jean (MacCallum) Sweet.
A graduate from Rothesay Collegiate School and the University of New Brunswick, Ian began his teaching career at Prince Charles and Forest Hills Middle Schools, following employment as a geologist with the federal government.
Ian is survived by his wife, Margaret (Robinson) Sweet; daughter, Kristen L. Sweet and two cousins, Jim and Lynn. He was predeceased by his son, Jamie in 2011. Doug Boyle, David Boyle, David Emerson, Amanda Belyea and former students enriched fond memories.
Ian had a profound interest in nature, its flora and fauna and outdoor activities.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A private interment in Fernhill Cemetery will take place at a later date.
For those who wish, donations to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation, Rocmaura Nursing Home Foundation, a charity of the donor’s choice or simply extending kindness to a stranger or a friend would be appreciated.
Gratitude for exceptional care is extended to doctors Hoirch, Desmond, Lalonde, Maxwell, Morais, Hayes, Cleminson, Rodger, Wilson, D. Craig, L. Allaby, nursing and support staff in the GEM and CAM Units at St. Joseph’s and to Tamer, pharmacist with Loblaws- Rothesay Avenue.
