Obituary of Vijay K. Kawatra

With deep sadness, the family of Vijay Kawatra wish to announce his passing on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Bobby’s Hospice. Born January 31, 1944, in Delhi, India, he was a son of the late Dev Raj Kawatra and Shakuntala Devi.

Vijay met his beloved wife of 52 years, Elaine, (nee Richmond) in Germany during one of his stints with Hilton International. Between his father’s diplomatic postings and his own nearly 40 years with Hilton International, Vijay saw much of the world. He returned to Canada for good in 1975 and made his final home in Saint John in 1990 with the Saint John Hilton.

A gifted artist, Vijay enjoyed spending his down time making wood decoys, and liked a good game of squash.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, Vijay is survived by his son, Dave; daughter, Michelle; grandchildren: Kai, Logan, Samuel, and Riley; and brothers, Vinay in Austria and Virender (Vanita) in India; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Respecting Vijay’s wishes, Hindi rites and cremation have taken place. May he rest in peace.
