Celebration of Life

Obituary of Jerry Lewis
Jeremy “Jerry” Trevor Stuart Lewis, Jerry to his many friends, was born in Leamington ON, but lived life to the fullest in Rothesay and Saint John, NB.
Jerry loved people and was quick to connect with every living creature he encountered. Whether you were meeting him for the first time, hanging out with him for the millionth time, or randomly running into him in the uptown wilds, you left with wind in your sails. His hugs could pull you out of the lowest funk and his wit could make you laugh in any situation.
Jerry truly cared. While working at the hospital, he loved being there for people when they most needed a friendly face or an inside joke. He wasn’t afraid to step up for complete strangers in their most vulnerable and dire moments. It was an honour for him. He was just like that.
His move to barbering allowed him to continue to care for, and connect with, folks around him. The people in his chair weren’t just clients, but friends and family. Cuts were opportunities to catch up and he cherished every single one of them.
Aside from caring professionally, he spent vast amounts of his personal time contributing to the Saint John music scene. From countless hours helping with the Area 506 festival to organizing his own events showcasing local music in support of the Alzheimer Society, Jerry never stopped finding ways to celebrate the art he loved while supporting the artists in his life and the people in need in his community.
He loved music. All of it. He had frontrunners - The Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, and Jerry Lee Lewis, among others - but he connected with such a diverse array of music.
He loved film. He found comfort in comedy and spirituality in the mystical realism of shows like Northern Exposure.
He loved games and always found a way to infuse his trash talking with warmth, leaving every bested opponent amused.
He loved art in all forms. When an artist created in earnest, he connected with it and felt it deeply because that was his natural state: to love and connect with the world around him.
And he loved the natural world. The animals in his life were always beside themselves with joy to see him. Camping filled his cup and helped him find the balance of socializing and solitude.
We lost Jerry unexpectedly from natural causes, but we can all take comfort knowing he loved us and would want us all to be strong and have good courage as we celebrate the time we got to spend with him.
Jerry was predeceased by his mother JoAnne Gladys Lewis (Murray) and father David Randal Lewis. He was survived by his brothers Pat Lewis (Lisa Lewis) and Randy Charlton (Lisa Charlton), his cat Peggy, and an endless list of friends who loved him as family.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home on Monday, May 19th, 2025, from 3:00pm – 8:00pm, with memories to take place at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, an organization very close to his heart.
