Obituary of Maxine Hudson
Peacefully on May 20, 2025, Maxine Rosina (Blaney) (Storey) Hudson passed after a brief illness at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She is survived by her children Andrew Storey, Victoria (Storey) Lambert, David Storey, Matthew Storey, and Heidi Hudson; grandchildren, Sarah Storey, Elizabeth Christie (Graham), Nathan Storey (Olivia), and William Storey; great grandchildren River Storey, Zev Storey, Oliver Christie, and Leo Storey; siblings, Gail, Sandy (Paul), Jackie (George), Clifford, Fred (Mary), and Barry (Bonnie). Maxine is predeceased by her husband Douglas Hudson, brother Mack, sister Linda, parents Winnie and Burt Morris, and father Arnold Blaney.
Maxine led a full life of great humour and laughter, friendship, love, and kindness. She had many many friends across this country. Born in England during World War II, she came to Canada as a baby with her mother Winnifred at great peril in a ship across the Atlantic ocean from England to North America. She spent many wonderful years with her beloved Blaney family members, and became known as little Rosie to all who cared for her in Temperance Vale while Winnifred worked in Saint John. Her stepfather Burt came into her life at 12 and they lived as a traditional family until Maxine married David Storey. Maxine worked at CIBC, Domtar, and Bud Bird until motherhood became the joy of her life. She was a wonderful, loving mother as seen to this day with all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, flying in from afar to visit often and the phone calls that never stopped.
As her children became older, she worked at The Echo Saint John Newspaper and Hestia House women’s shelter until she embarked on a great adventure with her second husband, Doug Hudson to the far north, Thompson Manitoba. There she worked for the RCMP for 15 years. The RCMP officers of the Thompson attachment loved working with Maxine, appreciating her humour and calm work ethic in a chaotic environment. She even had several nicknames: Max Beyond The Thunderdome, Huggamuggamax, Maxipad, Mother Teresa, Mad Max, and Maximillion. Her daughter Vicki worked there as well, and there was always the sound of laughter and everyone in a cheerier mood when Max was at the helm.
In the late nineties Maxine and Doug returned to their maritime roots in Saint John. Maxine was always surrounded by lots of family from afar, many friends, and her daughter Vicki, who lived with her these past years and who will always strive to be the witty, caring, loving, patient, humorous, amazing, and resilient woman her Mom was. These wonderful characteristics that all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and friends will carry forward in their lives. There will always be a Maxine trademark Irish Coffee ready for friends and family in her favourite backyard hangout, The She Shed.
A Celebration of Life drop in will be held at Maxine’s home, 161 Lakewood Ave, Saint John on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 2 - 6pm. A memory board of Maxine will be there should you wish to share a picture or memento.
Regarding donations, please choose any charity of your choice in memory of Maxine. However, there will soon be a Go Fund Me page on Vicki’s Facebook page (Ann Storey) as Maxine’s great grandson, Vicki Ann’s grandson Oliver Christie, 18 months old is battling leukemia. Should you wish to make a small donation in Maxine’s memory it would be greatly appreciated. Alternately you can contact Vicki at her email: lambert.vic@gmail.com
