Obituary of Bryan Anderson

The family of Bryan Anderson is saddened to announce his unexpected passing on March 13, 2025 at the Saint John Regional Hospital.  Born in Scotland on June 6, 1949, Bryan came to Canada with his family in 1954  at the wee age of 4.

He spent the majority of his time living and raising his family in the Beaches area of Toronto.   He was a talented graphic designer who worked  in advertising until his retirement. He particularly enjoyed recounting stories about his time with his co-workers who he considered good friends.

Bryan and Heather relocated to his happy place, Grand Manan in 2011 and to his screened-in front porch, his happiest place. From bird and spider watching to ‘rush hour traffic‘ when the boat came in, Bryan tried to spend as much time as possible in his cozy chair, dressed for all weather conditions.  He could be seen sitting out doing his puzzles, reading sci-fi novels or playing on his iPad, headphones on, music dancing in his head. He particularly enjoyed listening to blues rock and had an eclectic taste in music, introducing his family to all genres from bagpipes and classical to motown and hard rock. As he used to say, “we can live off of love and stereo”.

Cooking was a big part of Bryan’s life and as his friends and family could attest, he was amazing at it. From a traditional turkey dinner to a Moroccan tagine, Bryan could do it all.  And his pies, oh his pies.

His children cherished his advice and will miss the many conversations they had with their Dad. He always encouraged them to think outside the box and to see things from all angles. They will miss his stories, particularly of his childhood and wild teen years growing up in the Beaches. They feel blessed to have had such a wonderful man as a father.

Bryan leaves behind his wife and best friend of over 45 years, Heather, his children, whom he adored and was so very proud of, daughter Jayne (Mike) and son Skyler (Renee). He also leaves behind his younger brother and fellow Grand Mananer ‘from away’, Jim.  He was predeceased by his parents Joan and James Anderson.

The family would like to thank the paramedics, air ambulance and  the team at the Grand Manan Hospital for their quick response.  They would also like to thank Dr. ‘O’ and the nursing staff in 3CN at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their efforts and compassion.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). Bryan was very uncomfortable attending funerals so he will not be attending his own.   As per his wishes cremation has taken place.

Bryan was an avid Leafs fan and their biggest critic. He would definitely have had something to say about the way this season panned out. He was fortunate enough to have witnessed his team win the Cup back in ’67 when he was 17, a feat of which many have only heard recounted stories.  Maybe next year Bryan, they will win it for you.
