Obituary of Mary Pauline McLean
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Pauline (Grant) McLean announces her passing which occurred at Bobby's Hospice on Monday May 26, 2025, in Saint John, NB.
Mary was born in Saint John, NB on January 13th, 1932. She was the daughter of Alfred and Mary (Elward) Grant.
Mary had a wonderful sense of humour and a sense of adventure that led her across the globe. So much so, she earned the nickname "Globe Trotter" from her daughter Peggy. She travelled from the fast pace and bright lights of Las Vegas to the warm shores of the Bahamas to the diverse landscapes of Hawaii. Spain held a special place in her heart and later in life she discovered the beautiful beaches of Aruba.
Mary had a competitive nature when it came to card games. She enjoyed playing Skip Bo and Auction 45's and was known to take card games seriously at times. She would sometimes say, with a smile, "a card laid is a card played." Mary also enjoyed playing Bingo. Often talking, laughing and sharing stories with her friends. Many would describe Mary as a social butterfly.
At home, Mary was an avid and talented crafter, baker, cook and seamstress. Her hands were always busy making beautiful things or making something delicious. She took great pride in and was meticulous in whatever she did, often making sweaters and blankets for her loved ones, each stitch a gesture of her love. She was thoughtful and kind always there to lend a helping hand or to offer comfort when needed. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and adventure that will live on through stories that are shared and traditions that have been passed down. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mary leaves behind her children, Linda (Phil), Quispamsis, NB. Judy, Hampton, NB. Peggy, Quispamsis, NB. David (Christine) New Hampshire, USA. Keith (June) Sunnybrae NS. Grandchildren, Kerri (Tony), Paul, Timothy (Laurie), Mark (Tina), John, Adam (Joanna), Katrina (Jeff), Lee (Lori). Great grandchildren, Shianne (Alex), Alison, Jarod (Emma), Tori (Jacob), Jacey, Joseph, Rhylee, Dylan (Sylvia), Hailey, Cameron, Nathan, Aiden, Scarlett, Jacqueline, Kenneth, Liam, Mitchell. Great-great grandchildren, Oliver, Thalia, Charles, Aurora. As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A special mention to her good friend and cousin Ann, Kendall a long-time family friend, and her beloved dog Feather.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Gerald, infant son Robert, siblings, Violet, Bernice and Donald. Her best friends Bertie, Shirley and Patricia.
Finally, a heart-felt thank you to the compassionate, professional and loving nurses and doctors (Dr. Jessica Hemmings, Dr. Nicole Skidmore and Dr. Chris O’Brien) both with the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital, and Bobby’s Hospice, and especially to the nurses, caregivers and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice. The above mentioned are all wonderful, caring, and dedicated individuals.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). A Funeral Service will be held from the Brenan’s Chapel on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Visitation will take place prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM.
