Marie Morris

Obituary of Marie Ethel Louise Morris

It is with deep sorrow, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grammy, sister, aunt and friend, Marie Morris.  She left this world peacefully on the sunny morning of May 27th, after a courageous 7 year journey with stage four breast cancer.

Born on November 9, 1952, in Saint John, NB, to the late Ronald and Teresa (née Doucet) Corbin.  From the beginning, Marie was a force of nature—fiercely loving, endlessly generous, and unwavering in her strength.  She devoted her life to her family, community, and meaningful career.  A graduate of Saint Vincent’s High School, Class of 1970, Marie could tackle any challenge from fitness to finance.  Retiring in 2023 from Cumming and Associates.  It was there that she met her kindred spirit, Bev Cumming.  Despite a long and valued career, Marie’s priority remained her family.

Marie grew up surrounded by a large, loving family and spent her summers in Chapel Grove.  One of seven siblings, she shared a special bond with her sisters, especially Libby and Mary Ellen, who were by her side until the end.  Her talents as a craftsperson were evident in everything she created—be it a lovingly sewn dress for a granddaughter, a carefully knit sweater for a grandson, or her legendary cinnamon rolls (baked with love from a family recipe for every gathering).  She found great joy in sewing and knitting, but nothing brought her more happiness than time spent with her beloved grandchildren.  Her face lit up with every picture sent, silly story told or funny anecdote shared.

Despite the profound and sudden loss of her husband, Trevor Morris, just over one year ago, Marie continued to live with grace, humour, and boundless love for those around her.  She taught us to live fully, love deeply, and savour life’s simple pleasures—especially snuggles and stories with her grand babies, sitting in the sun with her beloved Zoey, a warm London Fog, a good book, and Coronation Street.

Marie is survived by her three cherished children: Lindsay Hall (Doug) of Hampton, NB, Craig Morris (Elaine Davies) of Halifax, NS and Josh Morris (Amy Robichaud) of Saint John, NB.  She is also survived by her siblings: Jane Allen (Doug), Paul Corbin, Mary Ellen Corbin (Steve Galianos), Libby O’Hara, Ron Corbin (April) and Rick Corbin (Barb); five beautiful grandchildren who were her entire world: Sam and Julia Hall, Louise and Beatrice Morris and Jack Watson; her treasured niece, Megan O’Hara (Kevin); seven other wonderful nieces and nephews; her brother-in-law, Brian Morris and her faithful companion, Zoey the Bernese Mountain Dog.

She was predeceased by her husband, Trevor; his parents, Charles and May Morris; her sister-in-law, Joyce Morris and her brother-in-law, Paul O’Hara.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home.  At Marie’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral.  A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, a place that brought our family great care and comfort in the darkest moments.

Our family offers heartfelt thanks to the KV Extramural Program, Bobby’s Hospice, the oncology department at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Dr. Sajni Thomas, Dr. Sharon Chiu and Dr. Chris O’Brien for their exceptional compassion and support throughout Marie’s journey.

She lived with courage, loved with her whole heart, and leaves behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and family.  Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of her family.  Forever missed, but never forgotten… ever present.
