Obituary of Andrew Thomas Withers

Andrew Thomas Withers of Kennebecasis Park, son of Andy and Carolyn Withers, passed away peacefully of brain cancer at the Saint John Regional Hospital on May 29, 2025 with his mother by his side.  He is survived by his parents and sister, Jennifer; as well as many cousins, uncles and aunts.

Andrew was born July 3, 1985 in Saint John and grew up in the Kennebecasis Valley.  He went to school at KPark Elementary, Rothesay Park Middle School and Rothesay High School and received his business degree from UNB in 2009 with one semester at Swansea in the UK.

Andrew spent his early youth playing baseball and was part of the 2002 NB Provincial Midget Championship team, family vacations were spent sailing.  He played High School basketball and worked summers landscaping and later house painting and tree planting and part-time during university as a short order cook.

After graduating, he moved to Vancouver to work as a painting contractor, later running his own business and then as a sales representative for Sherwin Williams.

Andrew enjoyed music, playing guitar and going to open-air concerts.  He also followed professional sports as a Blue Jays fan and enjoyed camping in his converted van.

After his first cancer diagnosis in 2018 and treatment at Vancouver General Hospital, he returned home to Rothesay to live.  His cancer returned in 2024 and he began enduring the various treatments of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, frustrated by times, but always optimistic that he could overcome his disease.

He was very generous with his time and one of his most favourite recent experiences was helping his uncle Tom build houses.  For a few years after coming home, he was able to participate in KV softball and hockey as a score keeper, adding his own musical flourishes.

Andrew was gifted a beautiful Sheepadoodle named Zoro and was attending obedience training with Zoro up until the end.  Zoro will remain with us as one of many reminders of Andrew’s presence.

Andrew was a very sociable person, happy to talk on the street or at a local pub, never forgetting a person’s name.  During his final year of life, he found great comfort in the Bible and attended True Life Church as often as possible.  The seeds of this interest were sown early when he attended water ski camp as a young teenager.  Special thanks to Bob Bustin for his kindness towards Andrew.

Donations in Andrew’s memory may be made to the True Life Church in Quispamsis.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM.  For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Andrew's obituary on the Brenan's website.  Immediately following the interment in Fernhill Cemetery, a reception will be held at Brenan’s Reception Centre.
