What a lovely man, Merle was! He was so kind and gentle, a true gentleman.
My favourite memories are of his annual summertime visit to St. Andrews, where my husband and I were living at the time. His daughter, my dear friend, Margarite, would bring him to St. Andrews for the day. They would visit us (always bringing a bluberry pie from McKays) and we enjoyed their visits so much! My sincere condolences to Margarite and all of the family, in their loss of Merle.

I am so incredibly sorry for the loss of your wonderful Dad. I had the privilege of meeting him when he first arrived at the Village. Over the course of the last five years I spent my time after or during my shift spending time chatting with Merl. I always enjoyed my time visiting with him. We talked about our families, life and even what we thought about who would be waiting for us when it comes our time to go to heaven.
This was especially comforting because I had recently lost my little brother around the same time he lost his only son.
He was always so proud when talking about his children telling me stories about when they were little and growing up and his lovely wife.
The love and pride he expressed when talking about them was so special. One year I brought him in a little wooden bird for his window sill and he was so appreciative. We also would have a shot of whiskey at Christmas time and always got a great kick outta that. His sense of humour, kindness, and his infectious laughter will be so missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
I will miss you dearly Merl. I hope that heaven is as beautiful as we hoped it would be because I know you’re definitely there.
Sincerely
Katherine Adams

Brian and I send our condolences to the MacDonald family on the loss of your father and grandfather.
I first met Merle at the Saint John General Hospital as a new graduate pharmacist in 1979. He was my boss but he became my mentor and friend. Always a true gentleman, Merle was highly respected by his staff pharmacists. By focusing on medication safety and positive patient outcomes, he helped shape our careers. I enjoyed our visits and conversations at “The Village” as we discussed everything from world events to his beloved Detroit Red Wings.
I will always feel fortunate to have benefited from Merle’s guidance and friendship.

So sorry to here of Merle's passing. He was a great mentor for pharmacists. He guided me (Roy) during my entry into hospital pharmacy practice as well as introducing me to the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. He was also a true friend to many. He will be missed.

I was saddened to hear of Merle’s passing.
He and my Dad, Arnie Weston spent many days playing crib.
It was me that showed the staff how to make the card holder that your
Dad used.
He was a lovely man. He passed away just 8 months to the day that his buddy passed away.
I was honoured to know your Father. Hold your memories close.
