Obituary of Roberta Ann "Bert" Horgan

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Roberta Ann (Fudge) Horgan with family by her side on June 30, 2025. Roberta was born on August 29, 1936 in Saint John, NB.  The daughter of the late Robert J. and Margaret (Corr) Fudge.

Roberta is lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Gerald Horgan; daughter, Patricia Flecknell (David); son, Peter (Barbara Howe); grandchildren, Jillian (Dale), Meaghan (Jeff), Michele (Barry), Michael (Tiffany) and Shannon (Cody); great-grandchildren, Jane, Hannah, Brielle, Allison, Owen and Cohen.  Roberta is also survived by her sister, Valerie Langille; brother, David Fudge (Elizabeth) and sister-in-law, Janice Bryan (Gerald) of Ottawa, ON; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her parents, Roberta was predeceased by her brother, Robert Fudge (Althea) and brother-in-law, Dave Langille.

Roberta - known as Bert to her family and friends was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for 60 years.  She graduated from St. Vincent’s Girls High School in 1954.

Our mother was truly a “Mrs. Fixit” - there was nothing she wouldn’t try her hand at.  A gifted artist, her paintings brought colour, calm and joy to everyone fortunate enough to receive one.  Her creativity didn’t stop there - from intricate smocking and handmade oven mitts to her lovingly crafted fur bears, everything she made was stitched with love.

Her grandchildren were the light of her life and they now carry so many beautiful memories of her warmth, care and presence.  Welcoming great-grandchildren brought her such joy - her face would light up at even the mention of them.

Family was everything to Mom, and to us, she was everything.  Though we’ve lost an irreplaceable part of our world, we’re grateful for the memories that will continue to fill that space.

She will live on in all of us - her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  With every little quirk or loving gesture, we’ll smile and say, “That is so Mom,” or “That’s so Nanny.”

Mom, we love you deeply and you will always be with us.

We would like to thank the Staff at Shannex Tucker Hall, Portland Place for the care and friendship they gave to Mom.  We greatly appreciate all you have done.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-643-7424) where visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.  We will gather to celebrate Roberta’s life with a Mass of Christian Burial being held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 12:10 PM.  For those unable to attend, the Mass will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Roberta's obituary on the Brenan’s website.  Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with a reception following at Brenan’s Reception Centre.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation Breast Health Program Trust Fund.
