Obituary of Elinor Jane Duncan
After a prolonged illness, Lynn Duncan passed away on April 18, 2018 in Saint John, New Brunswick. Born on May 5, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Dr. Gordon S. and Anne E. Maxwell (nee Storie).
Lynn was born and raised in Ontario. She lived in Brockville, Peterborough, Belleville, Toronto, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines before settling in New Brunswick for much of her adult life. Although she fell in love with the landscape and the people in New Brunswick, Lynn had a lifelong fondness for the family cottage at Bruce Beach on Lake Huron.
Lynn adored animals and loved to garden and sing. She was a long-standing member of several choirs, including the Saint John Choral Society, Cantus, and the Saint John Chorale. It was through her involvement in choir that Lynn met Spencer and Cindy Belyea and family with whom she had a special friendship.
Lynn was also a dedicated member of the Liberal Party's Kings Centre Riding. She regularly attended their events, sporting her red jacket.
Lynn is survived by her brother, James Maxwell; sister-in-law, Beverley Maxwell; and brother-in-law, William Reid. She was a proud aunt to Paige Maxwell and Brian Reid. In addition to her parents, Lynn was predeceased by her sister, Mary Anne (Maxwell) Reid.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Lynn’s close friends Charlotte Ward, Teresa Mittelholtz, and Cindy Belyea, as well as the staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 9 am until 10 am, at which time there will be a funeral service held in Brenan's Chapel. Interment with her parents will take place in Union Cemetery in Oshawa, ON at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Please place online condolences and remembrances at www.brenansfh.com.
