Obituary of Catherine Alice Tays
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Catherine Alice Tays (Northrup), wife of James "Jim" Tays, of Bloomfield, sadly announces her peaceful passing, on Sunday, May 13, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Saint John on April 25, 1953 she was a daughter of the late George and Bernadette Northrup.
Cathie grew up in the South End of Saint John as the eldest of the Northrup family. She was known for her long dark hair and big brown eyes. Her wit, charm and sense of humour were always the life of the party. In her later years Cathie enjoyed country living. She took pride in her home and loved to make it perfect.
She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her only child Christa Dawn Burley (Tyson); four grandchildren: Cayla Burley, Ryan Rogers, Carlie Burley and Chelsie Burley; great-granddaughter, Cali Brie Burley; brother, George Northrup (Cindy); sisters: Carmel Frauley (Richard), Carolanne McGivery (Brian), Cora Bourque and Cynthia Northrup. Catherine is also survived by her second family including sisters-in-law, Betty Bustin (Donald), Connie Tays Roy, Terry Tays Lewis (Robert) along with her very special parents-in-law, Clifford and Barbara Tays; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with her parents, Cathie was also predeceased by her brothers: Glenn and Gary Northrup.
In her most recent days Cathie enjoyed the company of very special friends Claude Bertin and Alice Bailey. She really appreciated their kindness and friendship.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2018 at 12:05 pm from St. John The Baptist Church, 54 Broad Street. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
