Obituary of David Garcia
On January 8, 2004, his earthly body gave up his gentle spirit to journey to a new and painless place. It is with great joy that he celebrates his evolution, but it is with immeasurable sadness that he departs the side of his cherished wife, Lisa Bourque. Lisa was, and is, his best friend and soul mate, whose own gentle spirit guided his, from this place to the next, with profound dignity, respect, and love. David and Lisa spent three and a half years together in Mexico, where they married in 1999, and four years in Canada, where they married again in 2003, just for good measure. Through it all, they have enjoyed the good company of many stalwart friends. David was born to parents David Garcia Claro and Patricia Garcia de la Peña on May 12,1977 in the city of Torreon, in the state of Coahuila, Mexico. He will miss them dearly, and knows they will miss him. To his sister Adriana, Angelica, Sofia, and to his brother Julian, David would say, “Do not weep. Celebrate my life through living. Look for me in all that I loved in my native country, and there you will find me, again and again.” To his grandmother Maria de la Luz, and his extended family in Mexico, David is profoundly thankful for their refuge, and guidance. He would acknowledge the monumental difference they have made to his full, albeit short, earthly life. To his Canadian friends and family, and his friends within the Latin American community in Saint John, David is eternally thankful for their warm, enduring friendships, and welcomed hospitality. They helped turn the geographical transition into a natural evolution of David's ongoing journey. Throughout life, both here and in Mexico, David enjoyed the good company of many friends in activities such as backpacking, classical music, playing guitar, solving puzzles, and playing computer games. He would ask them to think of him occasionally, when they do these things, and smile. He will smile back. To his friends and colleagues at Genesys, who spent so much time with him, and came to understand the depth of his strength of character, sense of humour, limitless courage, and gentle compassion for all, know that he valued his time with you, and feels privileged to name you colleagues. Raise a glass occasionally. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, (506-634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 12, 2004, at 12:00 Noon, from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception followed by cremation. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
