Obituary of Roland Harold Blenkhorn

The death of well known Saint John businessman, Mr. Roland H. Blenkhorn, husband of Mrs. Isabell (Fairhead) (Appleby) Blenkhorn, of Millidgeville, Saint John, NB, occurred at his residence on Monday, January 19, 2004. Born in Amherst, NS, he was the son of the late Roland and Margaret (Hamilton) Blenkhorn. Roland was a devoted and active member of Main St. Baptist Church and former member of Central Baptist and Victoria St. Baptist Churches. He was both a Gideon Bible Representative and Chairman of the Baptist Foundation for many years. Roland proudly served his country during WWII with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps and later owned and operated Maritime Electronics. Roland derived great satisfaction from fishing and gardening, though His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Roland was predeceased by his first wife Vivian G. (Fullerton) Blenkhorn, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife Isabell, daughter, Margaret (Peggy) (Mrs. Kent Tingley), Upper Cape, NB, step-daughter, Sally (Mrs. Bruce Slemin), Saint John, NB and sister Lyda Rafuse, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Grandad will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Mark Bradford Tingley, NC, Jill Margaret Tingley (Chris Dobbin), Halifax, NS, Suzanne Patricia Tingley, Vancouver, BC, and his step-grandchildren: Rebekah Jane Slemin and Emily Jane Slemin both of Saint John, NB, whom he loved so dearly. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). Visitation on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from Main St. Baptist Church on Friday, January 23, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Gideon Bible Society or to a charity of the donors' choice. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute to a Veteran Service will be celebrated at Brenan's on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
