Obituary of Thomas George Jarrett
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas George Jarrett, loving husband of Laureen Jarrett (MacElmon), announce his passing on Monday, July 2, 2018 at the St Joseph’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and was the son of the late George and Helen Jarrett.
Tom graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor Degree in Physical Education. He had two Masters Degrees from the University of Maine, one in Guidance and the other in Speech and Audiology. He worked for the Department of Education in New Brunswick in Speech and Audiology before becoming the CEO of Loch Lomond Villa, where he retired from in 1999. Tom was very active in community life. He was a member of the Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He was recently honoured with a Lifetime Membership to Parrtown. He was an avid golfer, having been a member of both Westfield and Riverside Country Clubs. He was also past President of Riverside. He was a former member of the New Brunswick Senior Men’s golf team and President of the Maritime Seniors Golf Association. He was a coach and mentor to many young golfers which included the New Brunswick Junior’s golf team. Tom will also be remembered for his many years coaching in the KVMHA and RNS, as he was a former hockey player himself. In addition, he was a self-taught woodworker, avid skier and a sports fan of all kinds.
In addition to his many accomplishments and hobbies, Tom’s greatest love was his family. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Laureen; his two wonderful daughters: Dr. Pamela Jarrett and her husband Don Slayter, and daughter Nancy and her husband Danny Marsh. He was predeceased by his best "bud" and son, Donald Thomas Jarrett. He has been an exceptional "Papa" to his grandchildren Emily and Jillian Marsh and Jeremy Slayter. Besides his parents and son Donald, Tom was predeceased by his brother, Art Jarrett and sister, Geraldine Kelly.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424. In keeping with Tom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 4 Church Avenue, Rothesay, NB, on Thursday, July 5 at 11:00 am. A private family interment will follow at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation for the newly established Tom Jarrett Fund for Excellence in Seniors Care.
