Obituary of Marcella Ellen Humphrey

The death of Miss Marcella Ellen Humphrey, formerly of Turnbull Place, Saint John, occurred on Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Born in Saint John, on August 7, 1918, she was the daughter of the late John Matthew and Emma Rose (Durnell) Humphrey. Miss Humphrey was the owner and operator of Humphrey's Grocery on Adelaide Street, from 1948 to 1966 and was later employed with Regal Wholesale Ltd. until her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #64 and St. Peter's Parish and was an avid bingo player. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Billy W. Dowd, Bruce Dowd, Terry Dowd, Stephen Humphrey, Marilyn Boyce, Pat Patten, Maureen Keenan, Nancy Dowd, Cindy McKenna and Karen Humphrey, and many friends. She was predeceased by one sister, Jean Dowd and one brother, Francis Humphrey. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Church on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
