Obituary of Arthur Augustine Comeau

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Arthur (Art) Comeau, which occurred on September 13, 2004 at Ridgewood Veterans Wing surrounded by his loving family. Born November 2, 1921, in Saint John, he was the son of the late Joseph and Amelia (Hughes) Comeau. He was a devoted husband to Margaret Anne (Whiting) Comeau, who predeceased him in 1972. Arthur served in the Second World War (1939-1945) as a member of the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals, 2nd Medium Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery, where he served in an Observing Post. As an observer (rank of Corporal) he saw action for 4 years in Sicily, Italy, North West Europe, ending his wartime service in Holland in 1945. Arthur made his home in Saint John and retired to Glenwood, NB, upon conclusion of his career with Canada Post. Arthur began his career as a letter carrier and rose through the administration to become a member of the Canada Post Team that implemented the Postal Code System in NB. Arthur served in the Maritime Delivery Service as an administrator in Saint John. Arthur was a past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #87, Central Greenwich and was inducted as a Life Member of the Branch. He is survived by two sons; Arthur of Saint John, NB and Stephen of St. Catherines, ON, two daughters; Carolyn (George) Gregory of Queenstown, NB, Theresa (Rodney) Winters of Halifax, NS, three brothers; Warren of Saint John, NB, William of Halifax, NS and Lawrence of Glenwood, NB, five grandchildren, Christopher Gregory, Jesse Comeau, Anne Winters, Sam Comeau, and Karen Winters, two great grandchildren Ashton and Dylan Gregory, and life long friend Leona, several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by two brothers; Hilton and Earl, three sisters; Vivian Lovett, Marjorie Comeau and Rita Monk. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John the Baptist Church, Saint John, NB at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 16, 2004, interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Remembrances in Arthur's memory may be made to the Diabetes Association or donor's choice. There will be a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service on Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at 7:00 pm. A reception following the interment will be held in Branch #69 Royal Canadian Legion, Wilson Street, Saint John, NB. To those who knew Arthur he was the epitome of a life well lived.
