Obituary of Walter Nagel
The death of Walter Nagel, husband of Margaret Ann Ireland, occurred on September 5, 2004 at the Regional Hospital in Saint John, N.B. Formerly of New York, N.Y., he moved to Saint John in 1986 with his wife, a previous resident of the city. Walter Nagel was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1911, and obtained his law degree in Cologne. He became a U.S. citizen in 1944, serving in the U.S. Army military intelligence overseas. In 1954 he joined a New York firm of management consultants, remaining there until retirement. In Saint John Walter and Margaret Ann actively supported the arts. Father of Thomas Nagel, New York and Paris, and Andrew Nagel, Rochester, N.Y. Stepfather of Nicola Carter, Saint John and Cyrus Carter, Istanbul, Turkey. Grandpa to Ben and David Carter. Predeceased by his first wife Line Baer (N.Y. 1970) and by his stepson Erskine Ireland Carter (Saint John 1994). The family is deeply grateful to the dedicated staff at the Turnbull Nursing Home, who had joined a loving circle of family and friends. Following cremation, a private interment will take place in Saint John. Arrangements under the direction of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (506-634-7424).
