Obituary of Bernice C. Lewis
The death of Bernice C. Lewis, wife of the late Clyde Lewis, occurred on October 3, 2004, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Gardner's Creek she was the daughter of the late John R. and Alice M. (Carson) Wallace. She was a graduate of the Wilfred Academy of beauty in New York and was the proprietor of Milady's Beauty Salon in Saint John for many years. She was a charter member of the Saint John Hairdressers Association, an Elder of Black River United Church, a member of the St. Andrews Circle of Kings Daughters, a member of the Quaco Historical & Library Society, the Seaview Community Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #14, the Westfield Golf and Country Club and the Union Club. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family being survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of very good friends. Her brothers Charles L., J. Roy, and William A. Wallace and her sisters Edna M. Wallace, Lillian H. Moore, Marjorie Loughery and Grace E. Stairs predeceased her. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at 1:00 PM, from Brenan's Chapel. Following cremation interment will take place at the Black River United Church Cemetery. Remembrances made to Black River United Church or Romero House Soup Kitchen would be appreciated.
