Obituary of Grace Lillian Porter
Loving mother, devoted wife and daughter passed away, on Saturday August 28, 2004, at St. John and St. Stephen nursing home. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Grace was predeceased by her devoted husband George B. Porter, her mother Edith Annie Cooke, Stepfather Harry Cooke, Sister Annie Edith (Dureen) Blakeney, brothers Robert J. and Frank Arseneau and Ronald C. Cooke. Grace is survived by her loving son Robert B. Porter and daughter-in-law Anne C. Porter, Grand daughters Jill Barclay (Alec), Cathy Johnson (Greg), four great grand children Anna and Robb Barclay of Vermont, Christopher and Brian Johnson of Indiana; sisters-in-law Betty Cooke, Eileen Arseneau; Nieces Kathy (Cooke) Brown of Moncton, Dorothy (Arseneau) Mosher of Halifax; Nephews Robert Arseneau of Saint John, William Arseneau of Halifax; and several grand nieces and nephews. Grace was a pepper pot of energy, planning and holding parties during the Great War to support the troops overseas. She was a lifetime volunteer at St. Luke's Anglican Church Women and exercised her leadership in acting as treasurer of the Anglican Church women for many years. Grace became an outstanding skip at Thistle Curling Club and later at Carleton Curling Club, winning many local and regional bonspiels. Grace your family and friends remember your steadfast will and strength always. Thank you for giving us an iron base on which to build our lives. Your simple approach to living as a model for all mankind to use, if we could learn to respect others like you have. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visitation on Monday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at 10 am. Interment to follow the service in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Luke's or St. John's (Stone) Church Memorial Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
