For many years I wondered
Not knowing why I lived
Not knowing that the Saviour
Eternal Life would give
To church I often ventured
Yet found not the peace
The satisfaction I desired
The void did not decease
I heard a Gospel broadcast
On which the preacher said
"Ye must be born again
For all ‘till then are dead"
The preacher made it very clear
And yet I could not see
The message of the Gospel
Somehow was hid from me
But then one night upon my bed
As I lay there and prayed
The Lord poured forth the cleansing blood
That March night I was saved
It was a very simple prayer
As indeed all such shall be
"Ok God I cannot help myself
Lord, you must help me"
My soul from mortal lodging
It seemed did take its flight
Left this fleshly temple
Was bathed in Heaven’s light
And oh what a burden was lifted
I knew not it was there
I felt so clean, so new, so free
As a bird soaring in the air
Was there ever such a wonder
That God could tell a soul
Without the aid of mortal man
He could make a sinner whole
For many years the Saviour
Has worked on my behalf
Some folks think it wonderful
While others - they just laugh
Then came the time I heard it said
That folks could speak in tongues
This cut right across the grain
Yet came from twice-born ones
I took down my concordance
And also took the Book
To find for sure the answer
I knew I had to look
I searched and searched the Scriptures
Alas I found it true
For Peter said "This Promise
Is given unto you"
And so I sought the Spirit
For fourteen mouths and more
I tried so very hard tho’t
I could not seek Him more
Then one night as I was praying
Kitchen chairs the altar rail
God filled me with His Spirit
Praise God He did not fail
