Obituary of Beverley Christine Sayre
Unexpectedly, Bev died peacefully at home in Rothesay,NB after a wonderfully full day with family and friends. Born in Saint John, NB on October 2, 1917, she was the second daughter of the late Roy and Nan (Cathers) Finley. Bev's involvement in community activities included: being the first treasurer of the Catherine E. Black Chapter of the IODE, a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church Vestry, ACW and Altar Guild and the first Woman Warden in her church. She was a founding and long serving Volunteer at the K.V. Food Basket and a member of the Rothesay Fire Department as voluntary dispatcher. Her service to others was recognized through such awards as the Diocesan Roll of Honour, Beta Sigma Phi Lady of the Year, Maritimer of the Week, United Nations Certificate of Appreciation for Volunteerism and Queens Jubilee Award. Years of many kindnesses to family, neighbours, friends and strangers characterized her life of caring and quiet devotion. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Geoffrey; three sons, Geoffrey (Sally), John (Lynn), Ted (Beth); daughter, Susan (Bruce) Ward; daughter-in-law, Charlene; sister, Pat (Carl) Schell; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (almost six), several nieces and nephews, Predeceased by son, Paul and sisters Heloyse Finley, Elspeth MacIntyre, and brother, Dr. John Finley. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. At the request of the family there will not be any visiting at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 from St. Paul's Church, Rothesay at 11am with Archdeacon Richard McConnell officiating, reception to follow in the church hall for everyone. Interment will take place following cremation. Remembrances may be made to St. Paul's Building Together Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
