Obituary of George Clifford Robinson
The death of George Clifford Robinson, loving husband of Valerie (Love) Robinson of Rothesay, occurred on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief stay. Born in 1924 in Toronto he was the son of the late Clifford and Marjorie (Moore) Robinson. George was raised in Saint John and attended Saint John High School where he first played the saxophone in a local band. He graduated from UNB with a degree in Engineering and was one of the founding members of the UNB Red and Black Review. George was a veteran of WWII serving in the Air Force. He began his own electrical engineering firm in 1951 based in Saint John with branch offices in Moncton, Dartmouth and St. John's, NL. After selling the electrical engineering business in 1988, he developed and ran a Property Holdings Company. For many years he was a member of Riverside Golf and Country Club, the Union Club and Parrtown Men's Club, was an avid curler and participated in both men's and mixed bonspiels, enjoyed salmon fishing in New Brunswick and trout fishing in Quebec, he was a historian on Currier and Ives lithograph prints. He worked with the original group to establish an elder hostel program in Saint John and was involved with the Parkinson's Society, a past president of UNB alumni, former member of the board of Governors of UNB and an organizing volunteer with St. David's United Church annual art show. A former member of the NB professional engineers association, Rothesay Yacht Club and the Saint John Power Boat Club. Besides his loving wife Valerie he is survived by his son Bruce (Melissa) Robinson of Gondola Point, daughters Kim of Quispamsis, Heather of Terrace, BC and granddaughters Lauren and Hailey of Terrace, BC. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2004 from St. David's United Church, Rothesay at 11:00 am. Interment will be held in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Parkinson's Society or the UNB Alumni Association.
