Obituary of James George Byrne
Byrne, James George – The death of James George Byrne of Saint John, beloved husband of Mary Therese (Barry) Byrne, occurred on Sunday, November 18, 2007, at home after a long illness, surrounded by loving family members. Born in Saint John on May 20, 1925, he was the son of James Edward and Lucretia Mary (Rouse) Byrne. George was a Plumbing Contractor, managing his own business for many years until his retirement several years ago. He possessed a unique wit and charm, and an indomitable spirit. George was a friend of Bill W. for more than fifty years and was known for his great generosity toward those in need. He is survived by his children: Mary Byrne, John (Lisa) Byrne, Monica Byrne (Kamal Howeizi) all of Saint John, and Elizabeth (Malcolm) Byrne-Zwicker of Fredericton; daughter-in-law Margo Beckwith-Byrne of Saint John; one sister, Lois Nugent of Fredericton and nine grandchildren: Jay, Liam, Sarah, Patrick, Edward, Kristen, Matthew, Lucas, and Alexa; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Patrick Edward (1966) and James George Jr. (2002) and a sister, Beryl Mary Wright (2006). Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 1 pm. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Friday, November 23 at 11 am. For those who wish to remember George, you could kindly assist a homeless person, give a memorial to Romero House, the James George Byrne Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
