Obituary of Matilda J. Paynter
The death of Matilda J. Paynter of Saint John, NB occurred on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre, Hampton, NB. Born in Anagance Ridge, Kings Co., NB, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Colbourne and Jennie Edith (Simonson) Paynter. Matilda was very active in her church under the Davis sisters; having worked with the Youth Department, was Sunday School Superintendent and Missionary Director at the Full Gospel Assembly. She had been employed for a number of years as Secretary to the Manager with the City of Saint John. Survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: Walter Garrett and Thomas Paynter; five sisters: Annie Seymor, Myra Paynter, Florence Waddell, Leona Paynter and Liley Simpson. Matilda was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Tuesday from 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 11 am. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Cornhill, NB. Remembrances may be made to the Dr. V.A. Snow Centre or charity of one’s choice.
