Obituary of Muriel Estella Matthews
Matthews, Muriel Estella – Surrounded by her loving family, Muriel Matthews of Red Head Road, Saint John, NB, beloved wife of Charles Matthews, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on September 2, 1922 in Hampstead, NB, a daughter of the late Henry and Estella (Beckett) Day. A member of the Red Head United Church, enjoyed the out-of-doors and was dedicated to her family. Muriel was a beloved mother, sister and grandmother, and is survived by one son, George (Dorothy) of Quispamsis, NB; four daughters: Carol Bennett (David) of St. Andrew’s, NB, Linda Friars (David) of Nanaimo, BC, Susan Thomas (Basil) of Mispec, NB and Patricia Hale (Frederick) of Rothesay, NB; one sister, Marion Thompson of Saint John (formerly of Campbellton, NB); eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Muriel was predeceased by four brothers: Perley, George, Grenville and Chester Day, and two sisters: Florence Denenny and Helen Francis. Muriel loved and was loved by all of her family and will be sadly missed. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with private family visitation and interment. A public memorial service to celebrate Muriel’s life will be held from Red Head United Church on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Muriel’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or Red Head United Church.
