Obituary of Gerald Gordon Burke
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gerald Gordon "Gerry" Burke announces his passing, which occurred on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, he was a son of the late Delbert and Mable (Jonah) Burke.
Gerry was an active member of his community. He was a Sunday school teacher at the Church of the Good Shepherd. He was involved with Scouts Canada and Girl Guides. He was a past president of the Loyalist Seniors Human Rights Commission. He was the wheelchair van driver for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #69. He worked for New Systems Laundry for 14 years as well as the Staff Manager at Prudential Insurance and worked in the business for over 40 years. His family meant the world to him and came before all else.
Gerry will be deeply missed by his daughter Nancy Dykeman (Peter), sister Frieda Roberts; granddaughters Sheri and Christy; great-grandchildren Taylor, Bianca, Cody and Kyla; great-great-grandson Logan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Aside from his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Helen (Godwin) Burke; brothers Calvin and Wallace Burke; and sisters Ada Porter and Mary Oliver.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, N.B. (634-7424) with visitation on Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 2–4 & 6-8 PM. A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at the Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 12:00PM. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
