Obituary of Jessie Winnifred Phillips
At the St John St Stephen Nursing Home on August 30t, 2009. Born in Saint John on Sept 23, 1923, the daughter of Lucien Ritchie and Jessie (McIntyre) Ritchie. Jessie graduated from St Vincent’s High and Saint John High. Jessie was employed as a bookkeeper at the Ideal Stores in Saint John for 33 years. She was a member of St Peters Parish for most of her life. She loved to socialize and was an avid Bridge Player. Jessie will be missed by the staff and her friends at St John St Stephen especially her friend Betty Heans. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Michaelsen (Norman) of Saint John, two grandchildren, Justin Michaelsen (Stacie ) of Rothesay. and Laura Vanwart (Roy)and her two great grandchildren Anders and Harry Vanwart all of Saint John. Jessie was also survived by her Sisters Helen Wood and Betty Hill both of Oromocto, Mary Lou McEvoy of Saint John, two brothers Arnold Ritchie of Saint John and James Ritchie of Ottawa., and several nieces and nephews. Jessie was predeceased by three Sisters, Mary Eileen Ritchie, Rosemary Ritchie of Saint John, Winnifred Ritchie of Cornwall Ontario.Four brothers, Edmund Michael Ritchie and Lucien Ritchie of Saint John, Robert Ritchie of Toronto, Struan Ritchie of Bolton Ontario. Jessie has donated her remains to Dalhousie School of Medicine so there will be no funeral, there will be a Memorial Mass at St Peters Parish Church in Saint John on Friday September 11th at 11 AM followed by a reception in the rectory.. The Family would like to thank the Staff of St John St Stephen Home for the excellent care that was given to Jessie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Remembrances may be made to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Saint John or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
