Obituary of David L. Doyle
David L. Doyle of Rothesay, husband of Margot (Spencer) Doyle, passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, May 29, 2009. Born in Saint John on May 27, 1941, he was a son of the late G. Arthur and Barbara P. (Morris) Doyle. David was a 1965 graduate of the University of New Brunswick, and was admitted to the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1971. He has been a partner in the Saint John office of Teed Saunders Doyle & Co. since 1978, and has been providing business advisory and assurance services to a wide range of clients for over thirty years. He was a member of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants, was a Past Chairman of the Saint John Port Authority, as well being involved in the Saint John Development Corporation, the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership, the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, Enterprise Saint John, the Fundy Region Development Commission, and many committees of the New Brunswick Institute of Chartered Accountants. In service to his community, David served with the Canadian Red Cross Society, both as Past President of the New Brunswick Division, and as Honorary Vice President; as a member of the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee of Rothesay Netherwood School, as treasurer of the St. Patrick’s Society, past treasurer of the Cherry Brook Zoo, and a former board member and treasurer of the Hampton Youth Centre. For his volunteer work and contributions to Canada, he was awarded the Governor General’s Medal on the 125th Anniversary of Confederation. In his leisure time, David enjoyed fishing at White Rapids on the Miramichi River, Nascar Races or anything to do with cars, as well as a good game of cards, and in the past few years had developed a love for a good round of golf; but David’s greatest joy in life was his family and his numerous friends. He was mentor to many, and always treasured the time he spent with them. David was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and a friend to all. In addition to his wife, Margot, David is survived by a son, Nicholas Doyle (Alana) of Ottawa; three daughters, Kimberly Doyle (Colin Sifton) of Quispamsis, Stephanie (Colin) Jardine of Hampton, and Vicki Doyle of Saint John; grandchildren Samantha, Emma, Hannah, Zoe, and Ben; brothers Arthur T. Doyle (Bonnie) of Fredericton and John W. Doyle (Dorothy) of Saint John; a sister, Priscilla Leger (Franklin) of Rothesay; and several nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by sisters Susan (Bill) Bustin and Geraldine (Terry) Gulliver. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 PM and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 Noon from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay. A private family interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
