Obituary of John Garfield Stevens

John Garfield Stevens best known by everyone as Jackie, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, at the age of 90. Jackie loved the camp, once around the perimeter, clothes on the line and storytelling. He especially enjoyed sharing with anyone who would listen about how his sister, Shirley, chopped off his thumb when he was just a little boy. Jackie was most well known for his support of Romero House, where he volunteered for over 20 years. One of Jackie’s greatest joys was spending time as a surrogate grandfather to his great-nephew, Macullam Stevens. The "Round Table" at Legion Branch 69 is missing one of its lifetime members today. Jackie is survived by his brother, Don (Marg); sons, Walter and Kelly; as well as many nieces and nephews who will always remember his "plucky" nature. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. A special thank you to the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, where the care and compassion is second to none. In keeping with Jackie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Romero House.
