Obituary of Douglas Ross Spinney
Spinney, Douglas Ross … Surrounded by his family, Douglas Ross Spinney of Saint John, NB, beloved husband of Heather (Miller) Spinney, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in St. Stephen, NB on September 28, 1930 he was the son of the late George and Stella (Smith) Spinney. As a teacher for 42 years, he taught at La Tour, Crescent Valley and Hazen White Schools, was principal at Grand Bay School and then he taught at the NBCC, retiring as Department Head of Upgrading and Job Readiness. Doug had served in Germany with NATO retiring as Lieutenant-Colonel, Senior Staff Officer in Communications. Doug was a member of the Milledgeville Seniors Group. Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by four children, Fennella Brewer of Norton, NB, Charles (Maggie) Spinney of Baddeck, NS, James (Catherine) Spinney of St. John’s, NFLD and Gordon (Kim) Spinney of Saint John; eleven grandchildren, Bonnie Lea and Spencer Brewer, Heather (Wayne) Cooper, Stephanie, Andrew, Cameron, Daniel, Caitlin, Melissa, Steven and Mykayla Spinney; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Steven Brewer; and two sisters, Beulah and Alice. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute for a Veteran Service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held from St. Luke’s Church, Main St. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com
