Obituary of Terrance Rene Nelson
With the heaviest of hearts, Cheryl Guthrie, fiancée of Terry Nelson, announces his passing on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. After eight months of battling a horrific beast, Terry left this world the same way he lived his life: on his own terms, surrounded by those who truly loved him. Terry was born at Digby, Nova Scotia on February 3, 1948, a son of the late George Robert and Julia Ellen (Dease) Nelson, and worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He was a great fan of Nascar, and enjoyed ships and lighthouses, as well as the company of his cats Lovey and Cindy, and dog, Penny. Terry is survived by his loving, devoted fiancée, Cheryl Guthrie; sons Charlie Hamilton (Amanda) of Saint John, and Robbie Nelson of Woodstock; a daughter, Susan Nelson (Travis) of Saint John; grandchildren Courtney Dawn Hamilton and Casey Breanna Nelson-Legere; step-grandchildren Trinity and Darius Savoy, Alyssa and Ryan Ellis, Aislyn, Aidyn, and Rory Bulmer; two sisters, Darlene Marchand (Blair) of Cape Breton and Debbie Nelson (Gerry) of Halifax; aunt and uncle Erna and Glendon Henshaw of Digby; and several nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by a step-brother, Myles. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service and burial will take place in Digby, Nova Scotia, at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances to the Lung Association or the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
