Obituary of Dorothy B. Smith
Smith, Dorothy B. - Surrounded by her loving family, the death of Dorothy Beatrice (Burke) Smith of Saint John, NB, wife of Reginald Smith, occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Fortune Bridge, PEI, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Ressa (Aitken) Burke. Dorothy was employed as a secretary for the Magistrate, Ken Martin and graduated from Union Commercial College, PEI. She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Loyalist Temple # 13 Pythian Sisters, and the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her husband of 66 years, she is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Allan) Blue of Quispamsis, Judith (Sandy) Hetherington of Rothesay; two grandsons, Owen and Nathan; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by four sisters, Cora Edwards, Lina Keith, Olga Dewolfe and Alda Burke; three brothers, Lester, Ray and Clarence Burke. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday and Monday, August 3 & 4, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from Grace Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to NB Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
