Obituary of Shirley Elizabeth Joyce Shelley

The family of Shirley Elizabeth Joyce (Foster) Shelley, wife of the late James Louis Shelley, sadly announce her peaceful passing on August 25th2018 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was born in Saint John on August 31, 1928, and was a daughter of the late Walter & Louella (Bacon) Foster. We were so lucky as children to have such a dedicated Mum and Nan. Mum’s number one priorities were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and baking and hosting family Sunday dinners. A favorite past time of Mum’s was going on one day road trips with her brothers and sisters, as well as trips to Bangor with her sisters. Her happiest years were spent with Dad and her family in Jemseg. In later years Mum would spend hours working her cross-word puzzles, and always loved company. Shirley is survived by her son, Michael Shelley; daughters: Susan Shelley, Elizabeth Shelley-Stackhouse and Carolyn MacMillan (Phil); daughter-in-law, Lynn Shelley; grandchildren: Tracey, Jonathan, Joseph, Shelley, Jamie, Sarah, Catie, Jesse, Scott, Anna, Louis, Casey and Shannon; great-grandchildren: Megan, Emily, Kylie, Alexandra, Silas, Sophie, James, Tommy, Owen and Kai; great-great-grandchildren: Hayden and Freja; brothers: Lloyd Foster (Rosalind) and Carl Foster (Barb); sister, Lois Lemmon (Bishop George); along with several cousins, nieces and nephews and members of her extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by her son, Paul Thomas Shelley; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Patriquin-Shelley; brothers: Mayes, Greg and Doug Foster; sisters: Dorothy Weatherhead, Norma Logan-Brown and Nerea Moore. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, 634-7424 with visitation on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 30, 2018. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Arthritis Society of NB, Diabetes Canada (NB) or charity of donor’s choice.
