Obituary of Hazel Doreen Sinclair

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much loved mother Hazel "Ronnie" Sinclair (nee Bloom) on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the age of 91. Ronnie was born on October 2, 1926 in Calgary, Alberta, the only child of June and Harry Bloom. Her mother died when she was only 4 years old and as a very young teenager she found herself alone. Mom never complained about her very difficult early life but it played a big part in her becoming the amazing wife and mother she would turn out to be. While at a dance at the age of 16, she met a dashing young pilot from Montreal, Reg Sinclair. After his discharge from the RCAF and his return to Montreal they kept their love alive through letters and the rare phone call until they could reunite four years later. Ronnie and Reg were married on May 27, 1950. They moved to New York where Reg played for the New York Rangers and it was while living there that their first child Jim was born. Later, daughters Colleen and Linda arrived. The family moved many times throughout the US and Canada and Ronnie was an expert at moving to new locations. Ronnie always put the children first yet she still managed to make remarkable friendships wherever she lived. She loved her gourmet lunch groups as well as gardening and her cats. Travelling with Reg for business or pleasure was always special and she was amazed at how many wonderful places they were able to go to. Their final move was to Rothesay, New Brunswick, in the late 1970’s where they were truly made to feel at home. She enjoyed their winters in Siesta Key, Florida and then some wonderful years in Savannah, Georgia after Reg’s retirement. Ronnie was predeceased by her adored Reg in November 2013 and her much loved grandson, Michael Robinson Shaw in 2003. She is survived by her son, Jim Sinclair (Carol) of Indianola, Iowa and their children, Taylor (Sam) and Jessie (Annie); daughter, Colleen Moroney (Greg) of Jupiter, Florida and their children, Greg (Jen) and Kevin (Marla) and daughter, Linda Shaw (Michael) of Calgary, Alberta and their children, Amanda (Chris) and Kathryn (Andy); as well as great-grandchildren, Madison, Tyler and Kendall Moroney. The family would like to thank the staff at Embassy Hall for their care of Mum while she dealt with dementia the last number of years. We would also like to thank Graham Macdougall for his friendship and his countless visits to check on Ronnie and keep the family up to date. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held from Saint David’s United Church, Rothesay, New Brunswick on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, New Brunswick (506-634-7424). In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Michael R. Shaw Outdoor Development Foundation c/o Suite 420, 135-26th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2S 0M2. Ronnie was an amazing wife, mother and friend, a true lady with an open heart and a smile for everyone. She will be sadly missed.
