Obituary of Ruth M. Little

The death of Ruth M. Little of Millidgeville, devoted wife of the late N. Donald Little, occurred on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Gladys (Breen) Galbraith. Ruth worked for many years at Sears, retiring in 1985. She was an active member of Portland United Church, where she was involved in Session and both the Jessie Langille and Jane Henderson United Church Women’s Units. Ruth was also a member of the Portland Quilters, the Millidgeville Seniors, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Pythian Sisters, and the LOBA, as well as the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. She volunteered her time with Meals on Wheels for more than 15 years, and also volunteered at the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home, and was a very worthy Bridge opponent. Ruth was a very devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, who always put others first. Her spirit and generosity was an inspiration to everyone. Ruth is survived by her loving daughters, Sharon Melanson of Morna Heights, Gayle Powers (Ron) of Saint John, and Norma-Dawn Reid (Don) of Saint John; a brother, Bayard Galbraith (Dorothy) of Saint John; a sister, Jean Logue (Kenneth) of Saint John; grandchildren Greg Melanson (Betty) of Saint John, Angela Melanson (Brett Duncan) of Dartmouth, Michelle Melanson (Leonard Kinslow) of Dartmouth, Erin Powers-Jones (Joe) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lauren Reid-Guenette (Frédéric) of Quebec, QC, Jonathan Reid of Saint John and Andrew Reid of Saint John; three great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Evan, and Edward Melanson; and several nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by a son-in-law, Edward Melanson, and a brother, J. Bruce Galbraith. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM from Portland United Church, followed by a reception at the church. Interment will take place in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, remembrances to the Portland United Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
