Obituary of Hazel Irene Shaw
Shaw, Hazel Irene (Perk) - passed away peacefully at home to join her beloved husband Doug on Sunday, December 14, 2008. Hazel was born in Saint John on April 4, 1922 to Ralph and Louise Dykeman. She worked for T. S. Simms before her marriage to Doug Shaw, the love of her life, on June 29, 1943. Doug and Hazel were married for 60 wonderful years. The focus of their life was their love of God and their family. Hazel was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church and a life long member of the Agnes Waring Guild. She was also part of the MSBC Friendly Fellowship and delighted in the many meals and social events this active group enjoyed. She was a loyal wife, mother and friend and lived her life as a strong and quiet witness to her faith. Hazel took great joy in serving others and, with Doug by her side, she welcomed any and all who came into their home. Hazel has left a void in the lives of her family and friends but we take comfort that she is at peace and, indeed, home for Christmas. Hazel is predeceased by her husband Doug and her sister Rhoda (Gordon) Harrity and is survived by her sister Audrey (Ken) Baxter, five loving sons David (Lynda), Donald (Janet), James (Marjorie), Robert (Ruth) and William (Cynthia) all of Saint John, twelve grandchildren; Kimberly (Greg) Armstrong, Tracey (William) Leroy, Craig (Michelle) Shaw, Christine (Edward) Reevey, Jeffrey, Jan (Samuel) Carlisle, Jill, Brittany, Erin, Kelly, Andrew and Peter Shaw, and nine great grand-children; Carter and Conner Armstrong, Ella, William and Jessica Leroy, Benjamin Shaw, Kate, Julia and Sarah Reevey, and Jacob Carlisle & numerous nieces and nephews. Resting at Main Street Baptist Church (Entrance off Metcalf and Adelaide) on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11 am from the church. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
