Obituary of Edgar J. Arsenault
The death of Edgar Joseph Arsenault beloved husband of Julie Germaine (Losier) Arsenault occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 surrounded by family. Born in Tracadie, NB on May 25th, 1925, he was the son of the late Pierre (Peter) and Genvieve (Marie-Jane Mallais) Arseneault. After moving to Saint John in 1949, Edgar worked at the Atlantic Sugar Refinery for a brief period and the balance of his life in the construction industry in New Brunswick for Mace Construction and Marque Construction Limited. During his construction career he worked on such projects as the Belledune Smelter, Belledune Housing, Irving Oil Refinery Expansion, Irving Pulp & Paper and the SMT Building just to name a few. Through his own business he also worked on various residential developments in Saint John including Champlain Heights. Edgar was a lifelong member of Local 1386, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and faithfully attended St. Pius X Church. Besides his wife Julie, he is survived by five loving children; Norma (John Frost), Saint John; Ronald (Cathy), Darlings Island; Brenda (Dale Porter), Hammonds Plains, NS; Karen (Norman Chantler), Apohaqui; and Keith (Debbie), Quispamsis; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother Emile, Montreal; five sisters, Irene Brideau, Toronto; Alvina (Vince Russell), Point Claire, QC; Edna (Eddie McGrath), Laval, QC; Raymonde (Roland Butler), Bathurst; and, Annette (Robert Forbes), Shediac; a sister-in-law, Lilianne, Sudbury, ON; and, a brother-in-law, Emile Losier, Toronto, ON and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son, Roland (1975); four brothers, Clarence, Alvida Joseph and Omer; and one sister Lorraine. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) with visitation Saturday, April 11, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 12, 2009 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Church, Somerset Street on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation, IWK Children’s Hospital, St. Pius X Church Restoration Fund or any charity of the donor’s choice. Edgar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege and honor of knowing him.
