Obituary of Lena A. Pond
The death of Mrs. Lena Amanda Pond occurred in Saint John on August 3, 2009. She was born in Lower Queensbury on May 3, 1922. She was the only daughter of the late Frank and Blanche (Hood) Joslin and wife of the late Clarence Pond for over 63 years. She is survived by a brother- in- law, Reginald Pond (Ruth) in Fredericton and two sisters- in- law, Georgia Welch of Fredericton and Beatrice Johnston (Ronald) of McAdam, New Brunswick, and several cousins. Lena and Clarence lived in Saint John for over fifty years where she was employed with The Canadian Red Cross Blood Transfusions Services as Transport Supervisor. She travelled the province many, many times and retired after thirty four years with an accident free driving record. Lena was the last surviving member of the Joslin Loyalist farm property in Prince William. She was a member of the Riverside United Church, Prince William and a life member of the U.C.W. She served on the Board several times and was president of the Prince William Cemetery Inc. for two terms. After Lena and her husband retired, they divided their time between the Joslin farm property and their home in Saint John where they attended St. Mark’s United Church. Lena was an active volunteer in several organizations, always ready to help wherever there was a need. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by several aunts, uncles and cousins and a special friend Vera Breen. The “Welcome” sign on the door of their home in Saint John really meant “welcome” as friends often gathered to enjoy an evening of music, especially Irish music, followed by a delicious pot luck supper, and at the farm, “welcome” meant a weekend of boating, snowmobiling, fishing, barbequing or whatever was in season. Visitation will take place at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row Saint John, (634-7424) on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. There will also be visitation on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the Riverside United Church, Prince William, from 12-2:00 pm followed by the service under the direction of Rev. Jennifer Brown. A reception will be held at the church to which everyone is invited. Interment will take place in Prince William Cemetery. Thanks are extended to all of Lena’s family and friends for the kindness shown to her over the years. She cherished each and every one.
