Obituary of John Gilbert Allan

John Gilbert Allan of Cambridge Narrows, beloved husband and best friend to Patricia (Pat) Allan, was unexpectedly taken from his family and friends on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Born on April 20, 1930 to the late David Hill and Florence Mae (Pilkington) Allan in North Sydney, Cape Breton, John moved to Saint John at an early age and later met and married the love of his life, Pat, in 1953. John is survived by his wife, Carol Patricia (Hollies) Allan and their two daughters and two sons: Carol Anne and David Roberts of Saint John, Heather Allan Murdock and Greg Murdock of Rothesay, David Allan and Dr. Heather Mosher of Tantallon, NS, and Johnny and Charlotte Allan of Calgary, AB. He was a loving grandfather (Bubba) and #1 fan to his grandchildren Caitlin, Emilie, and Amy Roberts, Erika, Clarke, and Gilbert Murdock, and Bart and Katie Allan. John was a brother-in-law to Dick and Annise Hollies; and is also survived by Henry the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, the last of many faithful dogs. John graduated from RCS (RNS), and was actively involved in sports, especially hockey, a passion that was passed on to his sons and grandchildren. John moved to the Washademoak Lake in 1991, where he and his family had many special memories. He later retired as General Manager of Commercial Equipment in Saint John in 1995, and following retirement, John actively watched and supported his grandchildren’s sports endeavours. He was an avid outdoorsman and was kept busy enjoying many pastimes with his wife and friends, including boating, ATVing, and RVing. He enjoyed special visits to Calgary for hunting trips with his sons, and was an active member of the Gomagan Gun Club. John loved spending time with his family and friends and was known for his great smile and personality. He always brought laughter into the room and that is how he will be remembered. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 7-9 PM and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers.
