Obituary of Geoffrey Trueman Sayre
The passing of Geoffrey Trueman, husband of the late Beverley (Finley) Sayre occurred at Ridgewood Veterans Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. He was born on June 12, 1916 at Saint John, NB to the late John and Jean (Trueman) Sayre. Geoffrey fought for his country in World War II, serving from 1939-1945 as an Air Force Pilot. After the war, he worked at the family owned lumber mills, F.E. Sayre Ltd. and Pollett River Lumber Co. He than devoted his life to the town of Rothesay, serving as first volunteer fireman, helping to form what is now the Rothesay Fire Department, then retiring as chief. Geoffrey also served as Councilor and Mayor of Rothesay. During this time, he created the Rothesay Regional Police Force. Geoffrey is survived by three sons: Geoffrey (Sally) of Lansdowne, ON, John (Lynn) of Bangkok, Thailand and Ted (Beth) of Rothesay, daughter, Susan Ward (Bruce) of Eastern Passage, NS; daughter in-law, Charlene of Ottawa, ON; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his loving wife of 63 years Bev and his parents, Geoffrey was predeceased by a son Paul; brother Jack, sister Barbara Mulcahy and sister Kathleen Appleby (Tucky). At Geoffrey’s request there will be no public visitation. The funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s Church, Rothesay on Monday, July 13, 2009 at 2 pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
