Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Bishop
Bishop, Mary Elizabeth – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Elizabeth Bishop (Betty) nee Holder who passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 30, 2009. Born in 1926, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Nettie Holder and beloved wife of Robert L.G. Bishop. Besides her husband, she is survived by and will be dearly missed by her sons, R. Lane Bishop (Diane) of Buffalo, NY and Kars, NB; and John D. Bishop of Peterborough, Ontario; daughters, Elizabeth M. Morton (Ross) of Kingston, Ontario; and Anne L. Gautier (Paul) of Rothesay, NB. also by grandchildren Pamela, Laura and Geoffrey Bishop; James, Sarah and Jack Morton; Patricia, Joanna and Robert Gautier; sister-in-law, Muriel Bishop of Oakville, Ontario; uncle, Travis Cushing of Saint John; cousins, Alison Cushing (Linda) of Whitehorse, YK; Jane Cushing of Saint John; Derwin Holder of Califon, NJ; John Holder (Barbara) of Collingwood, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was a graduate of Saint John High School, Provincial Normal School and the University of New Brunswick (Bachelor of Arts.) She was employed for several years as a teacher in Saint John and subsequently as a homemaker. Betty lived in Hampton, Newcastle, St. Stephen and for many years, Fredericton, NB. She was an active member of Trinity Church, Saint John and Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, NB. Betty was very fond of swimming and for many years was a member of the Silver Dolphins Synchronized Swimming Team. She was also a member of various service organizations, and was active as a volunteer. She loved reading, painting, music, travel and spending time with family and friends at the cottage on Belleisle Bay. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay, NB on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. www.brenansfh.com
